SMPTE ST 2059 White Paper
Timing Synchronization through SMPTE ST 2059
SMPTE ST 2059 is an integral part of emerging professional IP video broadcast technology and standards. This standard defines the mechanism for synchronizing video and audio equipment, locking to the same PTP grand master through a network.
These definitions determine how the necessary timing characteristics of each signal types are identified based on the IEEE 1588 clock. When applied, it allows for seamless switching between cameras or mixing a presenter in front of weather graphics, among other switching applications.
Covered topics include:
- Usage and Application
- ST 2059-based Synchronization
- Time Reproduced at the Slave
- The Relationship between Time-base and Audio/Video Signals
- Time Code and Leap Seconds
